The pitch (which, of course, is the distance from one seat to the next one in front) is the same on UA E- as it is on CO Y.
I agree the UA Y seat is more comfortable and this probably leads to a greater feeling of ease.
If I'm not mistaken, the Y seats on the UA 757's are older and thicker and so this would reduce the legroom left over, but I think the thickness of the seats on the UA's Airbuses is pretty similar to CO's Y seats.
One possible difference is that, in a more comfortable seat, one doesn't feel the need to slide around as much and this leads to an impression of greater legroom...just a conjecture...
