I don't know what French law is like - but here in the UK (and in a number of other countries that I know of) minor convictions are deemed "spent" after a few years, so even if France did carry out police checks I doubt a 10-year-old DUI conviction would be a problem. But if you're worried why not check with your nearest French embassy/consulate?
