I wish I knew the rationale behind it. Managers trying to "protect" revenue? They just end up pissing their best customers off. Especially in this age when you can look at real time inventory on your phone and find out in 30 seconds that they are lying to you.
I've been to plenty of SPG and Hilton properties that blatantly do this too. Not just the car industry. At least the airlines are a bit more predictable about upgrades and actually follow their own rules.
