Is there any other deals out there, that might be pertinent to the get the 2nd ticket cheaper? I think my wife has around 15k miles in her skymiles account.. I don't think it would be worth it to buy the remaining 75k miles.

Thanks

Award tickets (tickets obtained by using miles) do NOT earn SkyMiles or MQMs, so if you do want the MQMs than you are right, use the miles for your wife's ticket and then purchase your own ticket.

There are really no deals out there that will help you get the second ticker cheaper, well no extra deals...there are always various fare sales that come and go...

You might want to consider looking at alternative airports for possibly cheaper tickets. For instance BUF often had cheaper tickets as there is more airlines that serve it so there is more competition. You should also check SYR.

For int'l travel I've found that ITH, ELM, and BGM are usually more expensive than ROC, BUF, or SYR....probably because the first three only connect to DTW, so if DTW->Int'l city isn't cheap...then ITH, ELM, and BGM are not cheap...
