How 'bout SFO->BOS->HPN in 3-class transcon F for $1398. Same price SFO->MIA->RSW. Also SFO->JFK->PVD. Just some examples. The pattern here seems to be travel from the West coast (okay, so I've only looked at SFO as that's where I'm based) through an East coast gateway to some dinky airport (apologies in advance if I've offended anyone in HPN, RSW or PVD!). The fare prices out this way to many cities in FL and the Northeast.

I've only been able to get these fares by trial and error on aa.com by choosing "Choose by price." Even if I select "Choose by schedule" and come up with the exact same itinerary I get the full F price of some $4700!!!

I've flown two of these itineraries in the last month, so it's no fluke. BTW, the fare basis begins YUP.
