Got an opup. That is, you were lucky. Having status with AC, I have had opups with United, with LH, with SK. Actually, only time I was already in Y but got pulled to business was on United... (On AC I never do get one. I usually find a way to sit in front ahead of time.)

I don't think this makes one airline better than the other, really more a matter of them needing Y seats but having J seats left.
