If this is happening on a regular basis it could be hard on the laptop. As others have said, it’s best to make sure the machine has completely shut down before putting it away.

My new ThinkPad decided to come out of Sleep last night, so I’m not sure what’s up with that. At least it was not in a bag, and was plugged in so I didn’t have a dead battery this morning.
