There are no "upgrades" actually involved; these are discounted First class fares that were originally designed to confuse accountants (but can equally confuse airline employees, who, in turn, confuse FlyerTalkers).
Gotcha, KVS does make it easy to see fare bucket availability.
I just did a "mock" booking with H-fares, however, and when I got to seat selection, it did not let me choose anything in first class...only economy seating.
