Sure..it's not like they'll refuse to transport your bag because US got there late. You still have a confirmed United ticket and will be flying with them that day. They'll just put it on the next flight.
Actually, my concern is if the US flight gets in too late to catch the LAX-HNL flight and that is the last flight of the day.
