Yes to both questions, but of course a seasoned traveler such as yourself knows that if the US flight is delayed there is some risk your bags won't make your connecting flight but if not they should be on the next one.

Be sure to bring a printed copy of your UA itinerary with you to show the US agent as they will likely require it in order to interline your bags for you.
