I can answer only to question number two. At least in domestic Chile, all fares are valid to stand-by in the airport for any flight in the same route the same day of your original flight.
If you call LAN they'll probably tell you it isn't possible because they'll try to sell you a new ticket or charge you for a confirmed change.
