We are flying from LAX to OGG in Jan. One ticket is upgraded coach to FC, the other is FC award. We originally had a direct flight on our return. With the cancellation of that flight, we are now connecting thru HNL on an AA code share, which I understand is HA. We are booked in coach for this segment.

I've been told that AA's agreement with HA does not allow upgrades to FC on award tickets. I can't find any mention of this on the web site member's guide. It's not that it's a long flight, I just thought we migth save a lot of time in check-in if we could check in as FC in OGG? Am I getting the straight story from AAdvantage?
