I'm trying to book a mileage upgrade on SFO-HKG roundtrip. I realize CX website capabilities have changed recently, so it appears information in some older threads may not quite apply. My questions are:
* Do I need to ticket/purchase an underlying YBHK fare before I can request mileage upgrade, or will a booking/reservation suffice ?
* Is there a way to do the whole thing on the web within my MPC account, or do I need to first make reservation using a TA, then call MPC hotline ?
* It doesn't appear that the web lets you just make a reservation to apply the mileage upgrade to. Am I wrong ?
Upgrading online requires a
ticketed booking.
If you only wanted to check availability, you could simply call MPO. However, if you want them to go ahead and book the U/Z seat, you need an underlying reservation/booking. Contrary to upgrading online, your reservation/booking does not necessarily have to be ticketed.
