I used to always get seats in the back until I qualified for FTL. Now I usually have a pre-assigned in the first 4-5 rows.

But it also seem to depend on the ground staff of your departure location. Madrid is awful. They have the habit of pre-assign large groups to the first 10 rows and leaving their regular customers the seats in the back.
