Question What seat does LX pre-assign you when booking thru swiss.com?

As you know, it is not possible to select seats when booking on Swiss.com

However, Swiss at least lets you choose window or aisle seats. I'm curious, when booking online through swiss.com, what seat does LX end up pre-assigning you? ie, when you go to do OLCI, what seat do you have? In my experience, I usually get the window I request, but usually it's in the back of the plane...

Before I made SEN, I always was in the back...now I'm a bit farther up front. On my most recent experience: I flew ZRH-LHR and back in Economy class. When doing OLCI for ZRH-LHR, I noticed that LX had pre-assigned me the first row of economy (seat 9F) and seat-blocking had kicked in (seats next to me showed up as occupied at OLCI, yet were empty when I boarded). So I had three seats to myself on the A320 (flight was not full).

On the return, LX gave me 14F on the A321, which was not near the front of Y-class, the flight was complete full (thanks to BA strike) and no seat blocking for me. I decided not to change my seat at OLCI, and stayed with 14F as there were no free window seats further up in the plane.

My personal policy, is that for long-haul flights, I usually call after making the booking to reserve a seat. For European flights, I don't call but I just make sure that I do the OLCI as soon as it opens. What is your advice on this? Do LX usually pre-assign you good seats when booking online thru swiss.com? Do you always call? Does status mean LX pre-assigns you better seats?

I'm curious to find out if there is any kind of pattern/system here...or if seats are just randomly pre-assigned by some computer somewhere.

Thanks for your input!
