DJ British Airways: 3 Days Industrial Action Cost GBP7M Per Day


LONDON (Dow Jones)--British Airways PLC (BAY.LN) said Monday that the contingency plans for the three days of industrial disruption were successful and the current best estimate is that the three day industrial action will cost GBP7 million a day.

MAIN FACTS:

-As a result full year earnings expectations to March 31, remains broadly unchanged.

-Over the first two days, the airline operated 273 or 78% of its longhaul flights and 442 or 50% of its shorthaul flights.

-Seat factors were good at 68% in longhaul and 69% in shorthaul.

-Club World seat factor was just under 60%

-In addition the airline operated 70 positioning flights, which in most cases carried cargo, to return passengers home with minimum disruption.

-Started the weekend with 82,573 bookings for the two days after reservation teams had worked with customers to reduce bookings (including accommodating some passengers for travel in the days leading up to the weekend) to reflect the smaller flying program.

-Over the two days carried 86,262 passengers, due to late additional bookings.

-Assessment of the cost of potential future industrial action can only be made after the event.

-Shares at 1726 GMT down 2.5 pence, or 1.0%, at 241.0 pence.
