Thank you for posting the FACTS and not just guessing. I was going to post similar since I fly AS quite often to/from Alaska and came across those rules a few months ago.

Actually the ticketing agents at AS are quite well versed in their rules. But the OP should carry a paper copy of his/her e-ticket receipt on DL to prove the international connection and to give the AS TA the correct flight numbers and routing.
