2 tricks of my head that NZ can try to increase the Koru Club revenue in offpeak/leisure times:
1. One-day/week/month pass
Most US-based airlines have this - say NZ$10-15 per day, can be used in ANY Koru Clubs in NZ. Open to ANY departing passenger, with discounted rate to non-Gold Airpoints and Star Alliance members.
2. Extra, pay per use services
Like massages at AKL Intl, other amenities/services can be provided - perhaps a haircut (I think Virgin Clubhouse does that at LHR?), suit/clothes ironing? Obviously the revenue has to outweigh costs and hassles, but you know what I mean...
I think with Bruce/official Air NZ presence here, it's a lot easier for Air NZ to get some brilliant ideas from customers ^

Feedback from Koru members have been that they dont want to pay more similar to your comments about the joining fee
We are trying a few options for off peak or leisure travel
We are treating the business time when the lounges are generally full as sacred to our members
There is a campaign out now to buy a ticket on Tasman at a leisure time and it will include free membership
We are also looking at an offpeak membership which will let us use the lounges more at off peak times and use the dollars from that to offset the costs so we can keep the price to members down.
