What's the appeal anyway? You go, get sunburned, lay on the "beach", and come home much poorer than you were when you left (i.e. fly business there, economy back). And you melt, if you go outside for even a second. It's an amusement park for the nouveau riche, pretty much. No thanks.
Dubai does work for a fair amount of shipping and as a SW and South Asia meeting point, including for those who are the old rich. There's a market also for nouveau riche-catering amusement parks in various parts of the world. Arrivistes everywhere need something to do.
