I had bought a number of brass or brass plated shoe horns with a long wooden handle and a brass knob from a stire going out of business. I was going to gift some to my father and brothers. I lost them to theft, along with my DVD player, TV and my desktop PC, among other things, after Katrina. I saw a very nice shoe horn in my hotel room in Osaka. I was tempted to take it with me. The only thing that kept me was the shame of getting caught, and being charged a lot more than it was worth, on my credit card. There were no foreigners in that hotel except me. I also did not want to bring a bad name to my country and people. I can understand your temptation, as I was very very tempted. I even came up with a scheme to steal it. If you are staying more than one night, you were expected to not be in the room between 10 and two or something like that (It was a business hotel) the housekeeping staff comes around during that time and unlock and open all the doors while they clean the rooms in an assembly line style. I stayed in my room one day when I had to be in the phone. I could have stolen it from another room that day, but I didn't have the courage. When you check out, you leave your room door ajar. I also planned to steal it from another room on my way out. Once again I did not have the courage. I really really wanted that shoe horn.
This is OT:
Ironically, I was accused of stealing one from my podiatrist's office. I took my own cheap plastic shoehorn with me on my first visit when I did not know they had same size shoe horns in each examination room. The guy was an more than an hour late coming into the office and then made me wait for another hour. While in the office, I noticed they had a shoehorn similar to mine, but of a different colour. As I was leaving the office twirling my shoehorn, the receptionist said "We need this shoe horn." I told her that it was mine and that she must have seen me twirling it when I was waiting in the waiting room for an hour. There were other issues with that podiatrist. So he is not longer my podiatrist.
If anyone here has nice shoehorns in their house, please don't invite me to your house.
