If the package is not of great value, you could leave it in the luggage cubbyholes in the lounge. I think I remember JFK having them but I avoid JFK like the plague and don't know for sure. If it's just for a few hours, I'm sure nobody would get suspicious. You risk theft but I regularly put my carry-on in them and have never had issues.
