No...that's called NRPS, non-revenue positive space which means they're confirmed on the flight (and get whatever class is available at the gate).. and no miles awarded for that either.
Just to clarify, on NRPS we are actually booked in the class of service required by our contract, not what is just available at the gate. Upgrades are done at the gate if available.
And you're correct, we don't acrue miles unless we buy a ticket somewhere, not NRSA or NRPS.
