I'm Greek too and completely agree. You will be paying a premium for the convenience of the Sofitel. You might as well make the most of it and take the plane. Not to mention that lots of the time it is actually cheaper to take the plane than a boat.
I do not know what day of the week you are planning to travel to Santorini but depending on traffic--and that's the point, you can never depend on traffic in Athens--it may take over an hour to get to the port in Pireaus.
