I believe OP's question was what value are people getting from their miles, not how much do they value their miles.
There is a difference between the value people have gotten out of their miles and the future value they expect. I have been getting 2-3 cpm from my miles, but I don't trust the ff programs enough to invest up to that amount to purchase miles because there is no guarantee of future value--the programs can arbitrarily control availability and redemption levels.
Also, because the programs give away so many miles, and I don't have enough time to use all of my miles, I am not willing to spend more than 1 cpm to buy miles. I don't trust the programs enough to pay to stockpile unlimited amounts of miles.
