Maybe they've shifted to different types of ads, around DC they're all over the metro and the sides of buses. However most of the ads are for United branded credit cards so they may be ads from Chase and not United.
I'm sure those are Chase ads. They're also all over BART here in the Bay Area.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe UA's last national TV ad campaign (that didn't involve promotional consideration, such as with the Oscars or during games at United Center) was the animated Suite Dreams series during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The ad
"Heart" has still appeared in-flight as of late, as
awerdna2002 alluded to. But that's fine by me; it's probably one of the more touching and tasteful ads from a major corporation I've ever seen. If only UA could keep classing it up with some new spots! (Hey, someone's gotta counter
