I can tell you for sure that switching to the direct YVR-MUC will cost you $90 + GST for the change fee. On the other hand, I believe that if UA releases a first seat for YVR - ORD you can upgrade without any fees...

The other hope is that they change the scheduling on you, and you can request a change w/out charge.
