Even if you believe you will be on an aircraft with AVOD, always bring plenty of your own alternative in flight entertainment, because the AVOD might not work.
I recently did a 10 hour day-time flight and the AVOD didn't work properly, despite a reset, so we had the old-fashioned non-AVOD 12 channels (or however few there are). I was very relieved that I had a good supply of books, magazines and a Game Boy. I didn't realise that it was possible for the AVOD not to work and instead have the old-fashioned system running instead.
