Agreed... I have no idea what they have in mind when they think about gold medal. Maybe I'm a bit biased, but when I think about what it means to get a gold medal for website performance, I think Google, not Delta. Google can basically search the entire internet for any random term you throw at it and give you results back in well under a second. Delta.com takes forever to load, (takes about 5 seconds after I enter my skymiles pin), takes a long time to pull up flight search results (10 seconds), and then the results aren't even accurate half the time ("this fare just sold out" - search again - "this flight is available" - select - "this fare just sold out").
I don't mean to disparage the crew working on delta.com, that's certainly not my intent, but I really hope that DL doesn't take this as a sign that they got a gold medal so everything is A-OK and they can stop worrying about the website. They've got a long ways to go before that is true. They've made progress and should be proud of that (kudos for being able to book me on OAL when my JNB-ATL flight is 5 hours late and invalidating my connection), but there are still some pretty basic problems (namely in booking flights, especially award fights, and even (relatively) simple things like "book a flight in Y/B/M and upgrade with miles" still can't be done online.)
