If you'll continue to fly as much as you do now just the additional miles you'll get as a gold should be worth the cheapo ticket for a 5 TP flight.
As for all the other gold advantages: I haven't noticed that much of a difference. Sure - First Class check in and lounge are a bit nicer, but I was quite happy with being Silver as well.
