Perhaps DL is more apt to cancel or re-route operations from SFO and needs to maximize dispatch elbow room.

No I am 100% for ug's at the window from SFO. I do not book the last minute but I do buy the cheapest fare. I must just be lucky but that has not been that tough a route for me and I tend to go over MSP not DTW which may also help.
