Why are AMS-UK flights so expensive compared to UK-AMS + how do prices work?
Was playing around with the fares on the BA webpage where you can get to say Amsterdam from LGW or LHR from £49.
If you select "return", you generally end up paying much the same to come back to the UK (£92 return of which £15 for the flight and £77 for taxes!)
Yet if you want to either fly from AMS-LGW or AMS-LGW-AMS, on technically the same flight inbound, some of the economy prices are around £300+.
Checked with KLM as well. HUM-AMS comes in as £149 in economy, but if you fly AMS-HUM, single or return, you're looking at around €578 (£500?)!
Would have thought with UK "green" taxes, it would have been cheaper outside the UK.
Secondly, how exactly do BA work out their fares.
For example, was looking at London-Amsterdam using miles to upgrade from economy to CE. Cost around £338 + 9000 miles (Out 17th April, Return 18th Apr)
Then searched for a CE fare on the same days, and got exactly the same flights for £105 each way.
So how comes there's such a difference in price? I can get normal economy seats from around £50 each way on the same flights again.
Something to do with the top fare bucket?
