Just a little good natured and anal clarification as to Plato90s acronym nomenclature.

ILS/DME: Instrument Landing System[s]/Distance Measuring Equipment which can/does include outer, middle, and inner marker beacons; approach bearing; localizer; and glide slope.

ALS: Approach Lighting System[s], which can be either medium or high intensity and can/does include end-of-runway indicators, sequence flashers, and centerline lighting.

Both systems come in various flavors and relative intensities (CAT IIa-b, IIIa-b etc.). But it is the ILS that determines, among other things, decision heights and degree of auto land capability.

Somebody please correct ME if I have anything wrong. Cheers
