Actually, if you are flying a recent model jetliner into an airport equiped with modern automatic landing systems [ALS], the landings are actually better with just the inflight computer instead of the pilot.
From what I've read, one of the things which put Korean Airlines into the FAA designated "unsafe" category is because the pilots, many of them former military, prefer to use their "pilot's training and instincts" instead of allowing the avionics to do their work. You'll find that military aviators tend to have strong belief in their skills and little trust in computers, especially fly-by-wire aircraft like the Airbus A300 or the F-16.
While I think pilots are still necessary for emergency situations which fall outside the paramters of an inflight computer's abilities, a routine landing in a well-equipped airport in decent weather should usually be handled by the electronics. The computer can adjust faster than a human, even if it doesn't exercise good judgment in emergencies.
