I totally agree that you are in the right on all of this. Indeed, if they kept up the shenanigans, I believe that you would have been in your rights to charge back on your credit card, return the bag, go out and buy your chosen bag somewhere else for a reasonable retail price and take Luggagepoint to small claims for difference as well as your expenses and some general damages.
