You can do the same thing with the Hertz credit as with the WN credit .... remove your RR number from the reservation, and request retroactive credit later. Hertz site has a simple on-line form to request the credit.
I use that request page on Hertz all the time as I have had issues with them giving the credit to SWA sometimes. I request it on every flight as part of doing my travel expenses.
