Everybody is inexperienced at what they do at some point, whether you do brain surgery or work at McDonald's.
Although your analogy does have its merits, there is one caveat to keep in mind when considering this. Yes, the 1st year surgery resident can take out your appendix, or the junior neurosurgery resident can take out your brain tumor. However, while that resident is doing this procedure, there a senior surgeon watching every single move he/she makes, directs every aspect of the procedure, and ensures that there is excellent care of the patient.
The difference in these regional jets is that you do not have a senior captain with much more experience guiding the junior pilot through the flight.
