I'd do it and be legitimate and relaxed. Also, it means should you be close again - with no chance/options to retain you would only be asking a favour when there isn't an option availble.

Right now there is an option available, get bum on seat, so I'd do it.

But, I'd possibly not do it until the week before your year end - to give you more time as a gold.
