Although in the current climate there is a possibility your situation would be looked on favourably, I suspect if you were already gold and a few points short of renewal then there would be a better chance of some leeway being applied.

However you will kick yourself if it doesn't happen and now that you can earn 5TP on a cheapo economy to pretty much anywhere then I would take the extra flight if I were you.
