If possible, I would recommend staying in Yangshuo instead of Guilin. It is much prettier, less hectic and in the heart of the karst landscape. It is only one hour south of Guilin by bus, less time by taxi. You would be able to arrange an early Li River cruise and still have time to make it back to the airport in Guilin.
