Sorry state of affairs isn't it. I can remember when PE on BD705/6 earned 2x miles (I think it was L class) before they changed the earning rates. One year when I was really struggling for trips to get Gold I got a bargain price of £399 for a long weekend in Chicago and got nearly 15k miles.
