I was on the phone with CO last night about status matching. The nice gentleman (Robert, I think, was his name) said that if I waited until early June (he said perhaps after the 5th or 6th) that status would indeed last until 2012.

I don't like how inflexible they are about not matching *A status (I'm a frequent business and personal flyer moving to a city that is not serviced by US, but is by CO), but Robert couldn't have been nicer about it.
