I'm sorry. Apparently I was misinformed about the extent of UK law, and the AMEX rep was misinformed as well. For the record, my YQ was only 32 euros. Other taxes were £49. So paying £4.50 on this just seemed excessive on a percentage basis. I would have called back later with a debit card except I had already spent an hour with one of their efficient call center reps.
