I was in the AC in ATL today (6/14), as a guest of a co-worker who is 1MM + flyer on AA. (His wife's PLT, really close to EXP, what a power couple they are!)
Mary (the rep who issued us our boarding passes) also checked my reservations for my next two trips, and answered other questions. Of course, she got an SOS for her fine work.
I love the privacy in the AC, quite a change from the hustle and bustle in the terminal.
Just before leaving, I needed to ask about my checked luggage. I had changed from DL inbound from EWR, and I had this uneasy feeling that they had not moved my checked luggage over to AA, even though the flight arrived on time, and we had the layover.
Mary made the necessary phone calls and still did not get definitive word from DL, and Group 1 had already boarded (they were on Group 3 when I got there), so she sent me to the gate ("I'll have word for you, just ask them under this reservation.").
Lo and behold, an Operational Upgrade to F was there waiting for me! The gate agent called it a "Comp" Upgrade. My bag made the flight as well.
The moral: You will have to ultimately live with how you decide to pay for it, so do what's comfortable to you. However, it's well worth having!
