You're looking at the left-hand side, which indicates something different - the status of the FC cabin, and which elites have already been upgraded (Plats and Golds at T-5 and T-3 days respectively). It has no bearing on if they have checked in or not.
The right hand side would list those who have already checked in. The only time where there are PAX ahead of you, even at 23.5 hours beforehand is if they are on connecting flights.
plenty of people check in at 23hr59min before flight. On elite heavy flights like transcons it would not be unusual to see a dozen people as upgrade waitlisted at 23.5 hours, and that could grow to 50 people. And you could start as #1 or 2 and drop down over time as people with higher priority checked in.
