I guess it really depends on your home set-up, but I have four printers about the place, two of them on the network.

The majority of my printing goes through a B&W laser (Lexmark E320, I suspect long out of production) - though any laser will give you decent quality at a low cost per page.

I have an HP all in one in my office on the network - used mainly for scanning and the occiasional page that must be in colour.

My wife has her own Canon scanner/fax in her workshop, as it was only £15 with rebate and it saves her annoying me printing stuff while I'm on the phone.

We also have another Canon on the network which is given over to the kids and fed on cheap, generic, ink carts.

So..... I guess I'm saying buy a couple of cheap printers and spread them about - one of the colour must have + scans and another laser as a workhorse.
