Well a couple of thoughts coming from a 1K.

1) When I was flying DL, it was first come first serve on the UGs so even though I was platinum elite (PM), all the UGs were going to OFs who were able to book 12 months out. This didn't seem fair. At UA, I think they have a better balance where some UGs (NC) are available to anyone if they book early and some are based on status. This seems like a more reasonable balance.

2) I am still on a lot of TPACs, where C seats are going out empty and where UFCs are being offered so you ought to be able to sometimes get a UG.

3) It's a lot better at UA than at some other airlines, particularly DL, where even DM and PM (1k equivalents) can never get UGs.
