About 3-4 years ago, I had an ORD-LAX flight canceled for MX problems and UA could not get me on another flight for about 8 hours. When I asked CS for a meal voucher, I was told that since the flight didn't have meals, UA wouldn't give meal vouchers for it. (And the fact that I was already confirmed in F made no difference.)
