I bought a 5 year AAirpass in '94 and the price was a bit less than $.25/mile. With additional miles purchased (like FullFare I bought 55,000 figuring on Platinum) my rate went down to about $.22. You still needed to look at the prices of you route. I often flew ORD/SJC and never once used AAirpass, it just wasn't worth it. But ORD/NYC or ORD/LHR in FC was really worh it! $1250 OW to LHR in FC!!

When I was looking at purchasing the lifetime unlimited with a companion was $500K for both AA and United. I regret not purchasing it then, but I would have had to purchase United since they fly to moreplaces and the AAirpass is only good on the airlines metal.
