As far as luxury hotel chains go, The Four Seasons is by far the best. If you've stayed at the chain - any city in the world - at least twice, they create a profile about you, and not only address you by name throughout your stay, they know what kind of soap you prefer, (L'occitane or Bulgari).

More importantly, if you are a regular guest of the chain, and just take the time to introduce YOURSELF to the GM or Hotel/Resort manager, you'll make a lasting impression and most likely get all sorts of perks, including a welcome gift basket at each stay - and and night before check out out during each stay.
Anonymity is important to me. I want the perks for being a good customer, not a name-dropping schmoozer. : )

It's been pretty bad on a handful of occasions, par for the course with other luxury chains.
...they were leaders in this area in the 90's. Most have caught up with the Evian sprays and such.

True for many N.A. properties, but outside of N.A. the properties can vary greatly and it is one of the reasons why I prefer FS resorts, not their aged N.A. city hotels.
