At the end of a conversation with a rep on the Diamond line last night, she told me to be sure to watch my e-mail. Delta is planning to offer complimentary upgrades on international award flights to Diamond members. She thought this would only be on award tickets, not paid tickets. It sounded like this will be announced soon.
I am scratching my head for the rational to give complimentary upgrades on award tickets instead of paid tickets.
It would make sense to reward their best elites with complimentary upgrades on tickets that also produce revenue. But on award tix? Does Delta plan to restrict availability for economy awards for lowest miles further? In that case the benefit wouldn't cost Delta much!
